How we started
Skyburst Illuminations and The Firework Co have enjoyed a friendly and cooperative relationship over the past 15 years.
Both west country based companies were created by enthusiasts and, over the years have been successful in spreading their passion for aerial firework entertainment far and wide in the most extravagant ways!
Skyburst purchased the The Firework Co. early in 2004, forming it into Skyburst The Firework Co. merging the best of both teams.
The Firework Company started out as a mail order company selling self fired packs by post, a trade which still continues.
They also developed a display operation growing to become one of the largest in Britain, 2004 saw the supply of over 400 displays nationwide, including firing some of the most prestigious contracts nationally.
Ever since the magic of black powder was discovered, in China, some two thousand years ago, man has recognise it’s almost supernatural power to amaze. Fireworks, with their intense power and ethereal beauty have been used to glorify and enhance some of mans most outstanding achievements and victories over the centuries. Modern day advances in chemistry and technology have embellished the ancient craft and the breaking down of commercial barriers has allowed this fabulously expressive medium to be appreciated at a much wider level.
Join us in our celebration of the majesty and splendour of fireworks. Skyburst The Firework Company are taking the skills and knowledge of the old world and combining it with the youthful enthusiasm and inventiveness of the new.
Health and Safety Guide
We won’t contract a display unless we’re convinced that the firing site is suitable, and insist that a site survey is made in order that to can conduct a thorough risk assessment.
As a rule of thumb we look for at least 50m from audience to fireworks with an area 100m x 100m beyond the fireworks to act as a fall out area (which should be downwind). Apart from these spatial requirements it’s the weather conditions on the day which have the greatest safety implications. All our firers are trained – to national level – to be able to interpret any hazards presented by circumstances on the day and the measures which need to be taken to minimise them.
For more infomation please download our Safety Guide which gives you all the infomation needed for holding a professional and safe firework display

Meet the Team
Alan founded the company back in 1982, where he originally started off as a hobbyist firework company in Bristol, doing something he absolutely loved. Blowing stuff up, at the same time as making people happy! Alan did not expect nearly 30 years later, he would be running one of the UK’s Biggest Firework Company, still based in Bristol with the help of his two sons Jay and Luke. Winning awards such as ‘Family Business of the Year’
Being the youngest son of the family, Luke has grown up with a huge passion towards fireworks. having worked in many other area’s, he has found himself most at home working back at Skyburst and taking on the Marketing Role to push Skyburst forward and raise awareness in all areas of the industry.
Stu has worked for the company from a young age. Joining the family in 2005, Stu has experience within every position of the company. Starting in the fusing shed, and quickly becoming a senior supervisor. Stu is now the company show designer, designing all 140 shows across November as well as all the shows in the summer season. Stu has grown to his role extremely well, with all our customers coming back every year saying ‘best ever!’. We don’t know how he does it..
Matthew joined us in 2005 as an enthusiastic trainee and has worked his way up the ranks to senior supervisor level. He is a qualified science teacher and experienced live event and television presenter. He is one of the UK’s leading and most exciting firework science presenters and can be seen up and down the country at science festivals, corporate events and in schools. Skyburst is proud to support Matthew’s education and science communication work. Matthew’s specialities include pyro-musicals, stage and close-proximity pyrotechnics. When he’s not on a firing site, stage or screen, he can often be found recording voiceovers or in cold church towers pulling on a rope.
